A public meeting is scheduled for Thursday (September 13th), 6:30 p.m., for the purpose of sharing information and receiving answers regarding the construction of a new fire hall or the extension of the current fire hall. The meeting will be held at Fulda City Hall.
Fulda Fire Chief David Baumhoefner stated that a 71 page study, completed by BKV Group, Minneapolis, was recently presented to the Fulda City Council. The public information meeting was scheduled to allow area residents, served by the Fulda Fire Department, to tour the existing fire hall and have questions about the proposed building or addition answered.
During the study, BKV Group looked at mechanical, electrical, equipment and storage needs as well as parking area, and multiple locations for a new fire hall. They also studied what would need to be done to add on to the existing fire hall.
The study found the Fulda Fire Hall to be inadequate. Just a few high points of the study state that the truck doors are too small at ten feet tall (drive through doors would be more efficient), fire fighters turnout gear is in direct contact with the diesel smoke from the trucks, and equipment storage is lacking.
