Mark Holton, Slayton, was chosen to play the National Anthem on his trumpet for the Tuesday, September 11th Minnesota Twins game.

When asked how he came to be chosen for this special honor, Holton replied, “Ten years ago I played the National Anthem for the Colorado Rockies so I thought why not for the Minnesota Twins?”

He researched the Twins website and learned that an audio tape was needed to beginning auditioning to play at a game. The tape was submitted near the end of February of this year.

After the Twins received the audio tape, Holton was informed that a live audition was needed.  In April he went to Target Field and played for three judges and about thirty groups of  other folks who were present. “Most of the auditions were vocals, but there was a violinist and a soprano saxophonist, as well,” Holton shared.

In May, he received the email he had been waiting for. The judges had liked his audition and had placed him on the Twins list of candidates to perform for a game. “They asked if I would be available in the near future to play. Oh, but of course!” Holton exclaimed.
