FULDA PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING

Monday, June 11, 2018 – 6:00 P.M.

The Board of Education meeting was called to order at 6:01 p.m. by Chairperson, Don Tiesler.

Members present were Jason Appel, Don Tiesler, Phil Kramer, Kayla Clarke and Stan Kramer. Absent was Brian VanderBeek and Theane Pagel. Others present were Superintendent Ann Wendorff, High School Principal Tyson Walker, Elementary Principal Mike Pagel, Theresa Roberts, Steph Strenge, John Nau, Lisa Staples, Loy Woelber and Norma Dittman.

Motion by Phil Kramer, seconded by Stan Kramer to approve the Agenda with the following additions: Add item 4.P – Consideration/Approval of Letter of Intent to negotiate from Community Education Coordinator, add item 8.G – Consideration/Approval of Application for Cooperative Sponsorship adding Girls Hockey with Worthington District #518.  Motion carried.

Motion by Stan Kramer, seconded by Phil Kramer to approve the Consent Agenda, which included the following items: Minutes from Regular Board Meeting May 14, 2018, Bills, Activity Fund Report and Financial Reports.  Approved bid letting for milk, bread, fuel, softener salt and snow removal for the 2018-2019 School Year. Approved Renewal Rates for Property/Casualty/Work Comp Insurance. Approved contracts for summer lawn mowing and summer custodians. Approved Coaching Recommendations for 18-19 School Year.  Approved Contract for Head Volleyball Coach – Rachel Isder and Assistant Volleyball Coach – Anne Woelber.  Approved Contract for Preschool Teacher move to teacher salary schedule – Alice Spartz. Approved Contract for Math Teacher/Interventionist moving to teacher salary schedule – Sheryl Woelber.  Approved Letter of Intent to Negotiate from Elementary Principal Mike Pagel. Approved Contract for Library Paraprofessional – Paula Lutz.  Mrs. Wendorff highlighted consent agenda items. Mrs. Staples discussed financial positions and Property & Casualty Insurance. Insurance premiums will be up by $3,241.57 for the year for a total of $57,193.12. Motion carried.

• Pool is operating on summer hours

• Swimming lessons are scheduled for July 16-20

• Pump repair is scheduled

• Summer Rec started June 4th

• Continued programs include Pickleball, Zumba, Aquacise and Water Aerobics

Mr. Pagel’s Report

• Highlighted end of the year and summer programs

• Looked at projected enrollment numbers and teacher assignments

• Murray County Early Childhood Initiative donated two baby changing stations for the elementary school

• Thank you to the Elementary Staff and School Board for commitment and dedication shown to our students

Mr. Walker’s Report

• Projected enrollment

• Graduated 28 seniors on May 25th

• May 29th & 30th were Staff Development days

• High School & District overview

• Implementing 1:1 Chromebooks for grades 9-12 for 2018-19

• Partnered with Withzel Family and Nobles Coop Electric for STEAM program

• Highlighted tweets for end of year and start of summer

Mr. Pack’s Report

• Highlighted coaching assignments – fall coaches filled

• Mentioned dissolving and adding cooperative agreements with Worthington

• Spring sports seasons wrapping up – Baseball and Softball finished late May

• State Track June 8-9, State Golf June 12-13

Mrs. Wendorff’s Report

• How to insure Chromebooks – self-insuring looks like best option

• Everything is finalized with lawsuit

Cost of school lawsuit:

o Insurance Paid = $72,389.82

o District out of pocket = $11,827.14

Theresa Roberts gave update on Nobles Coop Electric project.  Boring will probably be done in July after Summer Rec completes

Congratulations to Morgan Gehl, Cory Renneke and Payton Marquardt for qualifying for state in their respective sports!

Old Business

Ann Wendorff and John Nau highlighted agreement with Solid Rock Assembly for building use contract.  Motion by Stan Kramer, seconded by Phil Kramer to approve building usage agreement with Solid Rock Assembly.  Motion carried.

New Business

Lisa Staples highlighted preliminary budget. Motion by Phil Kramer, seconded by Jason Appel to approve preliminary 2018-2019 School District Expenditure and Revenue budgets as presented.  Motion carried.

Motion by Kayla Clarke, seconded by Phil Kramer to approve membership in MREA for 2018-19.  Motion carried.

There are currently no students participating in Girls Gymnastics or Boys Hockey.  Discussion on dissolution of programs. Could possibly have 2 students participate in 2019-20.  Motion by Kayla Clarke, seconded by Phil Kramer to table action until next month for further discussion.

Motion by Phil Kramer, seconded by Stan Kramer to approve Lead in Water Plan as prepared by IEA.  Motion carried.

Staff Development presented a proposal for Curriculum Development Grants. Steph Strenge highlighted the proposal.  A lengthy discussion followed the presentation.  Motion by Phil Kramer, seconded by Stan Kramer to reject the proposal.  Voting in favor was Phil Kramer, Stan Kramer, Jason Appel and Don Tiesler.  Kayla Clarke voted against.  Motion carried.

Motion by Stan Kramer, seconded by Kayla Clarke to approve Memorandum of Understanding with Aaron Cheadle and FEA for College in the High School.  Motion carried.

Motion by Phil Kramer, seconded by Kayla Clarke to approve Application for Cooperative Sponsorship to add Girls Hockey with Worthington.  Motion carried.
