Despite the extensive efforts of attempting to educate the public on the need to drain and clean boats, the invasive species Zebra Mussels have been discovered at Lake Sarah. Jean Christoffels and Sarah Soderholm, environmental department, came before the board this past Tuesday with the report of the findings. According to the DNR it is believed, due to the size, the evasive species has been in existence at Lake Sarah for approximately three years. Because of the flooding the DNR will also be testing Lake Shetek and do anticipate to find them there as well. Christoffels and Soderholm shared more information will be coming and they will be revising the Aquatic Species plan to accommodate the findings. It will be revised as to how to respond to the investation. Christoffels did have a conversation with Lyon County discussing the possibility of doing a joint decontamination unit at Garvin. Soderholm will be looking at other counties who have the investation to help devise a plan for Murray County.
