Three Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda seniors who each were two-way starters for the Coyotes this past fall have been honored as All-District players by Minnesota’s Nine-Man Southwest District.
A total of 10 teams played in the district this fall, which was won by undefeated Mountain Lake Area, which is taking a perfect 11-0 record into Friday’s state semifinals at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Selected as All-District from HL-O / Fulda were Dylan Nelson (offensive guard and defensive tackle), Levi Spittle (offensive halfback and defensive linebacker) and Andrew Madsen (offensive fullback and defensive linebacker / end).
“Those three guys were really the heart and soul of our team,” praised Coyotes co-head coach Jonathon Curry about the trio earning All-District recognition. “Along with fellow senior leaders Eli Becker (defensive back) and Gabe Spittle (offensive guard and defensive end), they really set the tone for us all summer long and every day this fall in practice. We always knew where to go when we needed leadership or a big play. Andrew and Levi were really a dynamic duo, both in the backfield (on offense) and at linebacker (on defense). It was nice to have those two to lean on — both sides of the ball.”
