Murray County Commissioners approve K-9 Abby as surplus

The Murray County commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, November 20th. Amongst the agenda items included reviewing and approving the warrants and ditch bills. In addition approval was given to pay $39,713.40 for county ditch 29 repair to Cooreman Contracting, Inc. with a 10% retainage of $4,412.60 remaining once work is completed.

Approval was also given for the budget summary following confirmation of the sheriff’s office staffing levels which was set at 12 1/2 full time employees along with two part-time. After everything was put into the summary, the County is adding $459,000 to the overall fund balance.

The K-9 drug dog, Abby, is being eliminated from the sheriff’s department. As a result, she will be technically listed as surplus with the sheriffs’s department in charge of re-homing her.

Howard Konkol, ditch authority, appeared before the board with several ditch requests. All were approved. Konkol also informed the board FEMA has reached out to him and he will be doing an exploratory phone call with them next Wednesday regarding flood damage expenses.
