“It was a once-in-a-lifetime trip and one we will never forget. We saw so much, learned so much history and had a very awesome time doing so,” Mike Vortherms stated of a 9-day pilgrimage to the country of Italy. He and his wife, Marge, along with their son, Matt, toured Florence, Assisi, Orvieto, and Rome from Thursday, November 8th through Friday, November 16th. The tour was led by Father Timothy Biren, with arrangements made through Peter’s Way Tours of Jericho, New York.
Father Tim is pastor of the parishes of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Parish and Holy Redeemer of Eyota, and of St. Aloysius, Elba, MN.
The twenty-two member tour group left St. Paul Minneapolis International Airport on an overnight flight to Paris and then on to Florence. “The flight was good. It was an eight hour flight. Once we got to Florence, we traveled by bus,” Mike said. “Our guide, Elisabeth, was wonderful. She spoke four languages, lived in the outskirts of Rome, told us she has three children. She made everything very interesting and was so knowledgeable. Everything she shared with us was knowledge that she had learned and retained. She just knew what to say about all of the places we went and what we saw.”
