BOARD OF EDUCATION RETREAT
Monday, July 23, 2018 – 6:00 p.m.

The board of education retreat was called to order by Superintendent Loy Woelber at 6:08 pm.
Members present were Brian VanderBeek, Kayla Clarke, Phil Kramer, Don Tiesler, Stan Kramer, Theane Pagel and Jason Appel. Others present were Superintendent Loy Woelber, Elementary Principal Mike Pagel and High School Principal Tyson Walker.
Introductions by all.
I. Our District’s Financial status
a. Will we need another referendum?
b. Board and staff need to be positive and always promoting
c. Ended last year in a better financial position than previous year.
d. Enrollment has strongly increased since 2012-13. Up by 50-60 students in elementary.
II. Students & Activities
a. FFA, Speech, Knowledge Bowl, FCCLA, BPA, STEAM, School Musical every other year
b. We have programs where the older students interact with younger students
c. Sports programs: pairing with HLO has gone well
d. College in the High School
e. E-cigarettes (vaping)
f. Dress code – holes in jeans
g. Update teacher handbook from board and Superintendent
