With nine players contri buting and six of them scoring, the Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda C-Squad girls’ basketball team won an overtime thriller over Pipestone Area at Fulda last Tuesday evening (December 11) by a final score of 26-24.
The game was close all the way and freshman Faith White’s three-pointer tied the game with about 30 second left. In the overtime, freshman Brooke Lais scored the game-winning basket for the Coyotes, who improved to 2-2 for the season with the well-earned victory.
“We are really starting to gel at the C-Squad level,” praised HL-O / Fulda Coach Jonathon Curry about the progress of the young Coyote girls. “That is also paying dividends at the B-Squad level with many of the same girls.”
In a tightly-played contest from beginning to end, the Coyotes received eight points each from White and freshman Skylar Fisher, while four other freshmen — Corrine Frodermann (three), Claire Reith (three), Taryn Evers (two) and Lais (two) — combined for 10 more HLOF points.
“All nine girls contributed,” summed up Curry, who was also pleased with the play of freshman Addison Fisher, sophomore Tara Tuin and senior foreign-exchange student Francesca Meneguzzi. “Skylar and Faith combined to score 16 of our points, but everybody played hard on defense and moved the ball on offense allowing us to be competitive with a good team in what was a very exciting game from start to finish.”
White made five of HLOF’s nine free throws in the game.
