After thousands of years in one location, the landmark rock has found a new home.
The rock, located about three miles north of Brewster since the glacier apparently left it there thousands of years ago, was taken out of the field a few years ago. It has now found a more permanent home, at Fury’s Island, part of the Nobles County Park System.
In early Minnesota history, imagine seeing a large boulder jutting out of the ground on a small hill. It was very likely used to help guide prairie settlers as they travel across the area, with no roads or trees to use as landmarks.
The rock has been near the Pat and Doreen Habeman acreage, Brewster Fresh Produce, moved there in December 2014, awaiting a new home. Pat Haberman recalled his uncle farming around the boulder. “It was probably six foot above ground, and on top of a hill, so it could be seen from a long distance, with just prairie grasses around.”
