“A Salute to America” was the theme for the Fulda Elementary School spring concert held on Friday afternoon in the gymnasium of the school.

After the audience had been welcomed, grades two, three, four, five and six performed the American patriotic march “You’re a Grand Old Flag”, written in 1906 by George M. Cohan.

The audience and students recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, which was followed by John Smith and Francis Key’s “The Star Spangled Banner”.

Grades two and three delivered the well-known “Yankee Doodle” followed by “America” and “This is America”.

Under the direction of Matthew Saxman, the Fulda Elementary Band played Robert W. Smith’s “Liturgical Fanfare” and John O’Reilly and Sandy Feldstein’s “Reveille Rock”.

Next on the program were the kindergarten and first grades with their presentations of “I Love My Country”, “If You Love the USA”, and “A-M-E-R-I-C-A”.

Playing their recorders, fourth grade students performed “Folk Song Medley”, and “Indian Chant”.

The fourth graders were joined by the fifth and sixth grade, comprising a choir who sang “Proud to Be American” by Jill Gallina, “This Land is Your Land” by Woody Guthrie, and “Fifty, Nifty United States” by Ray Charles.

To conclude the concert, the audience was asked to join the students in the singing of “God Bless America” by Irving Berlin.

The last song was a reprise of “Proud to Be American” sang by the students.
