Getting off to strong starts to each game, the visiting Adrian / Ellsworth Dragons defeated Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda twice in high school girls’ fast-pitch softball action at Okabena last Tuesday, May 1.

The Dragons scored three runs in the top of the first inning and plated two more in each the second and fourth frames during the opening game of the Red Rock Conference double header on their way to a 7-4 victory.

The scenario was similar in the second game as A / E scored three times in the first inning and held off the Coyotes, claiming a narrow 4-3 triumph.

“Both games were close and competitive,” summed up first-year HLOF head coach Janae Vonk. “We came back well each time after Adrian built early leads.”

Eighth-grade pitcher Faith Kazemba went the distance in the circle for the Coyotes in the first game, finishing with eight strikeouts in five innings.
