Another busy week for Summer Rec Baseball

In a very long week that saw 3 games in 4 days along with practices cancelled, the Fulda Little Mites, Big Mites and Midgets had varied successes on the field. The Little Mites continued their winning ways by winning all 3 games they played in. The Big Mites had an up and down week by winning one, tying another and losing on a walk-off to the end of the week. A very young Midgets squad played in 3 competitive games and never gave up, playing to the last out.

Little Mites

The boys started off their week against Lakefield in a make-up game on Monday. Overall the youngsters did a great job of putting the ball in play. “I always say: nothin’ good can come out of a strikeout!” stated assistant coach Bennett Apple. Out of the 15 outs in the game, only 4 came by way of strikeout. Offensively, Torrin Clarke, Brenton Erdmann, Dillon Smith, Caleb Appel, Jackson Kramer, Landon Mimick, Gavin Bell, and Tyler Kirchner all scored for the Raiders who ended up winning 8-2. Zach Kirchner also had two big hits for the Raiders, going 2-2 on the day. Keegan Spittle got the start for Raiders and pitched two scoreless innings. He was relieved by Brenton Erdmann, Jackson Kramer and Dillon Smith who all contributed to the win.

Big Mites

The Big Mites also had a fun week of baseball starting their week out with a 7-1 win vs Lakefield. Gunnar McNab got the offense going with a lead-off double to start the game. Wyatt Meyerann followed with a double of his own to score Gunnar. Rylan Klein walked and Dylan Kramer hit a single up the middle score both Rylan and Wyatt. Simon Spittle also scored in the inning. The Raiders then scored in the 3rd when Gunnar led off the inning with a triple and scored on a Rylan single. Rylan advanced to third on two passed balls and Dylan was able to bring him home with another clutch RBI single. Simon Spittle had a great pitching game striking out 7 and only giving up one run.

Midgets

The young Midget squad had 3 tough losses this week, each within 3 runs. In the first against Lakefield, Fulda dropped a 6-3 decision. Abel Piper pitched a great game striking out 5 and getting ground balls. However, Lakefield came up with some timely hits to take the game. Logan Erdmann had a good day at the plate with two hits. He also scored once. Zach Thier came up with the other runs, getting on by error and drawing a walk. Rylan Klein and Gunnar, both 6th graders, came up with the other hits for the Raiders.

Fulda’s next game came against an experienced Okabena squad. Fulda got into some trouble in the first two innings as Okabena scored 5 in the first two innings. However, Logan Erdmann came and shut the door on Okabena striking out 5 in 2 innings of work. Offensively, Gunnar had a lead-off single and later scored after a double by Zach. Logan and Ryder Henning then scored in the 3rd inning. Abel Piper scored Fulda’s last run in the 5th and final frame. Abel also pitched two innings of relief striking out 3.
