Antiques and fine arts appraiser Mark Moran was at Fulda City Hall on Friday, and was available to the public for the appraisal of 40 different pieces. He has been on tour through the Plum Creek Library system and Fulda was his nineteenth show.
Moran has been a collector since 1970. He was a newspaper man with the Post Bulletin, Rochester, MN, for many years. In 1990, he began writing antique reference books and by 2002 he retired from the newspaper business.
Moran has written 27 books and is in the process of writing one about downsizing.
He works with Antique Road Show and said that during filming of a show there are 70 appraisers who see 10,000 items in one day.
On Friday afternoon, Moran cheerfully valued the 40 items brought in by his guests. To begin the show, Margie Salentiny brought in statuary that depicted an elephant being attacked by a lion. The elephant had a monkey on its head. Moran explained the meaning of the statue and informed Salentiny that her item was worth about $30.00.
