Arson suspected in fire that destroyed rural Fulda home

Fulda firefighters responded to an  emergency fire call at 1:07 a.m. on Sunday morning, March 5th for a house fire.

According to Fulda Fire Chief David Baumhoefner,  a caller reported that the Ernie and Kelli Johnson home, located on 41st Street northeast of Fulda was fully ingulfed. The caller reported that the roof of the home had already fallen in.

Law enforcement officials were able to contact the family and learned that all of the family members were away from home at the time of the fire, much to the relief of the officers and fire fighters.

Fulda Fire Department arrived at the scene with an engine,  two tankers, and a  rescue truck.

Slayton Fire Department was called to provide mutual aide, and arrived with two tankers and a rescue truck.

“Between the two fire departments, 22 personnel were fighting the fire. A small crew stay until the State Fire Marshall arrived on the scene at 7 a.m.,” Chief Baumhoefner stated.

The house and all of its contents, along with a near-by garage and play set were destroyed.
