Junior Maverick Beckmann and first-year senior Lukas Stapek both ran the hills of the Tracy Golf Course’s 5,000-meter (3.1 miles) cross country race in less than 20 minutes last Thursday (September 5), leading the combined Murray County Central / Fulda varsity boys.
Beckmann placed 26th (24th among finishers from complete teams) in the large field of 89 runners — representing 18 teams — with a time of 19:37.0.
Stapek improved his first-race time (20:10.3 at Mountain Lake, August 28) by nearly 16 seconds as he ran a more difficult course in a personal record (PR) time of 19:54.6 and placed 32nd overall (28th in the team scoring).
Completing the scoring for the Warriors were juniors Isaiah Kathman (58, 43, 21:55.4) and Dante Damm (73, 51, 22:40.3), along with sophomore Rylan Engelkes (82, 55, 23:53.3).
MCC / F’s total of 201 (24-28-43-51-55) was good for ninth place in the final team standings.
Lac qui Parle Valley / Dawson-Boyd, Class A’s second-ranked team, won the team title with a most impressive score of 35 (2-5-7-9-12), while Worthington, a high-powered Class AA team, was second with 45 points (1-4-8-11-21).
Sophomore Ryan Risacher (85, 57, 25:19.3) was the sixth Warrior varsity finisher at Tracy.
