Buddy earns three grand champion and two purple ribbons

A pet named Buddy made his family very proud this year at the area 4-H Dog Show as he earned three Grand Champion and two purple ribbons.

Buddy is a three-year-old Yellow Labrador. He was a birthday present to Ruth Ethridge just three years ago.

This year, Ruth’s sister, Rachael, has been working with Buddy and showed him in the August 5th 4-H Dog Show held at the Nobles County Fairgrounds.

Buddy and Rachael participated in five categories including Beginner Agility, Jumpers 1A, Beginner Obedience, Pre-Novice Rally, and Novice Showmanship.

In Beginner Agility, Buddy maneuvered through an outdoor course that included jumps and an A-frame. For Jumpers 1A, he had to go over jumps and through a tunnel. Following and obeying commands from Rachael was all part of the Beginner Obedience category. In Pre-Novice Rally, signs on the course stated what the dog was to do, guided by the person working with the dog. Showmanship is about showing the dog and knowing facts about him such as breed, shots needed to be able to be at the show, common parasites and more.

“I was expecting Buddy to do well, but not quite this well,” Rachael stated. “He really did well in most everything.”
