Instead of sleeping, volunteer firefighters from Fulda spent their Saturday morning by suiting up and battling flames in the Minnesota West structure fire ventilation simulator trailer.
The trailer allows firefighters, under the direction of an instructor, to view the growth of a “room and contents” fire from incipient to free burning. The firefighters are then exposed to fire steam management, thermal layering extinguishments theories as they have the nozzle in their hands during the fire attack.
Fulda Firefighters were put in groups of three and took turns extinguishing flames over and over again Saturday. The burn offered the trainees a chance to familiarize themselves with heat, fire, water, steam and safety tactics in a low-pressure environment. The fire fighters can do real-life scenarios in the trailer with out too much danger. It’s a live fire, however, it’s controlled so there isn’t as much of a risk to injuring people – yet gives the trainees a real fire training.
