Carrying on her mother’s traditions

A trip home to Buffalo, Minnesota included the task of clearing her mother’s possessions from the home she had been living in. Brenda Puffer’s mother, Mary, was making the move to an assisted living apartment.

As Puffer and her siblings worked on packing Mary’s belongings, she came upon a clear tote. Noting the red felt through the side, Puffer lifted the lid. “The tote contained red felt, Mom’s Christmas stocking patterns, many colorful sequins, yards of rick rack, buttons  and a host of  other decorative items that she used. I decided that I would carry on her tradition of making Christmas stockings for our family members,” Puffer explained.

Until five years ago, Puffer’s mother would make new family members (babies and those who married into the family) red felt Christmas stockings with their names on them. She would also create new stockings for those who had become mothers and fathers.
