Furniture, decorative home decor, wine and beer holders, picture frames, shelves, toys and puzzles, chests, carved pictures, personalized items! And that is just a partial listing of what you will find when you visit The Store of Carvings Done Right, located just south of St. Gabriel’s Catholic School and Sleepy Hollow on Lafayette Avenue. The Shop, located behind the home of Randy and Denise Dierks’, offers a plethora of quality, hand made wood items.
“If someone wants us to make something for them, all they have to do is ask,” Randy Dierks, owner of Carvings Done Right, Fulda, stated during an interview on Thursday morning. Dierks said that Carvings Done Right had its beginnings four years ago. “I always enjoyed making crafty things, and after I had a heart attack four years ago I decided to slow down,” Dierks stated. He is the owner of Dierks Construction whose company used to take on large construction projects throughout the area.
Dierks said that he purchased a computer numerical control (CNC) machine and began doing carvings which helped with fulfilling his creative nature. Some of his first projects were incorporating carvings into beer holders. “Word got out and we started doing a lot of personalized projects,” Dierks stated.
As well as, Randy, his son, Ted, and employee, Art Rodriguez, have been creating many different pieces of furniture – most of them made from reclaimed wood. “Reclaimed wood is really big right now. People like the look of it. We’ve done many headboards, cabinets, tables. If someone can envision it and brings us a photo, we can make it for them,” Dierks commented. “Not all of these items are our ideas. We have people who bring us, or send us, ideas that they have seen other places and we make some up. Like that flower box, we made several of them and that is the only one that we have left.”
