County Commissioners approve sale of surplus items; set hearing for redetermination of benefits on CD 11 and 57

The Murray County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, October 15th. Amongst the items on the agenda were the approval of commissioner warrants. There was a lengthy discussion regarding the payment of JD 3 improvement pay application in the amount of $260,573.74. The improvement project is joint with Cottonwood County. Based on advice by Kurt Dieter, drainage authority, the joint board needs to approve the payment. It was decided to table the payment until more information could be gathered as to whether one board, when in a joint situation, could actually approve the payment. Administrator Tom Burke was going to seek further advice on the situation.

The board also acknowledged receiving $1,620 from the Murray County Agricultural Society for sales tax savings. Auditor/treasurer, Heidi Winter explained the ag society is exempt from tax when putting on the fair, however, as part of that, the society is required to figure what those savings are and those funds are to be used for improvements, expansions,  or maintenance on the fairgrounds. Winter explained if the ag society does not own the fairgrounds and the county does, then these funds need to be turned over to the county to be used for the above mentioned items. The funds will go into a separate account and assigned to be used for future fairground improvements. This was approved by the board.

Amy Rucker, EDA, explained the county had contracted Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership (SWMHP) to provide administrative services administer owner-occupy and rehab grants. At this time not all of the money has been disbursed due to projects not completed as of yet. All of the projects have been dedicated, however the program will not be wrapped up by the end of 2019. The SWHMP has requested a second contract amendment to extend its administrative services through the end of 2020. The contract amendment will not result in additional costs to the county. This was approved by the board.
