The Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda boys team finished the day on Monday as Section 3A golf champions, and will be headed to the state golf meet.
The Coyotes combined for a 732 over the two day tournament. Payton Marquardt led the team with 177 over the two days (day one – 87, day two – 90) to finish as the Section 3A runner-up. Murray County Central’s Jack Pierson was the boys medalist.
Joe Fischer placed third overall, shooting 179 (89, 90), with Cory Renneke finishing in fifth with a total score of 186 (92, 94). Ethan Koep completed the Coyotes team scoring with 190 (96, 94), earning seventh place overall.
Isaiah Schmid and Tyler Madison also golfed for the Coyotes, and will advance to the state tournament as part of the championship team. Schmid completed the two day tournament with a score of 201 (97, 104) and Tyler Madison carded 219, (124, 95).
The Coyotes were followed by MCC (789), Southwest Minnesota Christian/ Edgerton (791) and Wabasso (821) in the team scoring.
The championship team, including all their golfers, and the five lowest scoring individuals not on the team advance to the state meet.
On the girls’ side, the Murray County Central Rebels took the team title, paced by medalist Abby Hamman with a two day total of 163.
