A pair of individual placements each by junior Gabe Spittle and senior Matthias Kunerth, along with scoring performances from juniors Sam Cheadle, Carlos Juarez and Christian Juarez highlighted Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda’s results in an 11-team high school track and field meet at Pipestone Monday, April 23.
It was the first outdoor competition for the Coyotes after five significant spring snowfalls have forced several postponements and cancellations. The Pipestone meet had been scheduled for Saturday, April 14 — the day of the recent blizzard.
Sunshine and 60-plus degree temperature greeted the athletes at Paulson Field Monday and numerous stellar performances were notched in the nearly ideal mid-April weather conditions, with snow piles all-around the track’s perimeter.
Spittle scored eight individual points for the Coyotes with a pair of fifth-place finishes. Gabe clocked a time of 12.21 in the 100-meter dash (just missing the fourth-place time of 12.20) and ran the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 46.78 seconds.
