After a send-off for the team held on Sunday in Fulda, the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyote boys golf team is competing at the state tournament. Fire trucks led the team after they met at the Town and Country Golf Cub and paraded through town before they departed for the tournament.
Two seniors, three juniors and a sophomore comprise the team of six that began the tournament early Tuesday morning (June 11) at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker.
The Coyotes teed off in nine minute intervals, beginning with junior Tyler Madison at 7:30 a.m. Sophomore Isaiah Schmid, junior Ethan Koep, senior Cory Renneke, junior Joe Fischer and senior Payton Marquardt followed, with Marquardt teeing off at 8:15 a.m.
The tournament continues on Wednesday, June 12. Tee times for Wednesday will be determined following Tuesday’s round.
Class A competing teams are: Bethlehem Academy, Faribault (Section 1); Springfield (Section 2); Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (Section 3); Community Christian, Willmar (Section 4); Lac qui Parle Valley, Madison (Section 5); Walker-HackensackAkeley/Laporte (Section 6); North Woods, Cook (Section 7); Fertile-Beltrami (Section 8).
The Minnesota State High School League’s golf state tournament, sponsored by the League since 1928, holds its annual event on Tuesday, June 11 and Wednesday, June 12 at three locations. The Class A tournament is held at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker, the Class AA event is played at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, and the Class AAA tournament is played at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids.
