Coyote C-Squad dominate second half, edge Madelia, 33-32

Combining improved all-around team play with a strong second-half effort, the Heron Lake-Okabena C-Squad boys basketball team claimed a one-point 33-32 victory over Madelia at Okabena last Tuesday, December 3.

The young Coyotes scored just seven points in the first half and trailed by five, 12-7, at the intermission break. But a much-better second half performance yielded 26 points and the one-point win as HLOF outscored the Blackhawks by a 26-20 margin.

Sophomore Parker Murphy was the leading scorer for the Coyotes with nine points. Freshman Rylan Klein and sophomore Preston Christoffers each scored six points, while sophomore Evan Madsen (five), sophomore Danny Leiva (four) and freshman Aiden Lang (three) also contributed points to the well-balanced HLOF victory.

Madsen, Murphy and Lang each made a three-pointer in the game and both Murphy (two-of-three) and Klein (two-of-four) sank free throws for the Coyotes.

The C-Squad hosts Windom (at Fulda) Thursday, December 12, at 5 p.m.
