Coyote girls win one-class Jr High Rebel Relays HL-O / Fulda girls finish 1-3-4 in 1,600-meter run

Paced by first-place performances from Megan Bakke, Claire Reith, Tara Tuin and Faith White, the Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda girls won the team title of the Junior High Rebel Relays held at Slayton on April 30.

Participating along with seven other teams in a one-division meet (all seventh, eighth and ninth graders competing together) on an extremely windy day (warm, but very windy), the young Coyotes racked up a total of 118.5 points to finish at the top of the team standings.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove / Red Rock Central was second with 105.5 points, followed by host Murray County Central (100), Pipestone Area (97), Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (71), Wabasso (25), Hills-Beaver Creek (1) and Ellsworth (0).

In the boys’ meet, MCC was first with 113 points, followed by H-BC (83.5), W-WG / RRC (78), R-T-R (73), Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda (52), Wabasso (49), Pipestone Area (39.5) and Ellsworth (37).

Bakke, a seventh-grader, won the girls’ 1,600-meter run (6:17), leading a 1-3-4 Coyote finish as eighth-grade teammates Ella Stapek (6:20) and Skylar Fisher (6:21) placed third and fourth, respectively, giving HLOF a total of 21 points in that event.
