Coyotes clip Flying Dutchmen, 43-40

Khloe Gehl drilled a 3-pointer with 36 seconds remaining in the second half, lifting the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes to an exciting 43-40 victory over the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen in a Red Rock Conference high school girls’ basketball game last Friday night (February 7) at Okabena.

Gehl’s clutch shot snapped a 40-40 tie, giving the Coyotes a 43-40 lead. HL-O/F then held onto that three-point edge in the closing moments to capture its fourth victory of the season — improving to 4-18 overall and 4-9 in the conference.

It was also the second win of the year for HL-O/F over Edgerton (0-18, 0-13), as the Coyotes previously defeated the Flying Dutchmen 59-49 at Edgerton on January 3.

“Everything about our game started off very slow, as we didn’t play well on either end of the floor in the beginning,” Coyotes head coach Andy Oakland said. “We finally got some things going toward the middle and later parts of the first half to grab the lead before halftime. The second half started similar to the first half, but we were able to play much better defense on Edgerton’s guards, and we were able to attack the basket and score every time they made a run.”
