Coyotes were third before lightning threatens

The threat of lightning and a downpour of rain suspended last week’s (Tuesday, May 14) Trojan Relays in Worthington with 10 Class A boys’ events completed and eight remaining.

Led by the multiple-event scoring of senior Sam Cheadle (21 points) and sophomore Zach Thier (10 points), the Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda Coyotes were in third place (among seven competing teams) with 57.5 points.

Southwest Minnesota Christian / Edgerton was leading with 75 points and Murray County Central had a score of 68. Hills-Beaver Creek was fourth, just one point behind the Coyotes, with 56.5 points, followed by Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (45.5), Adrian (37.5) and Westbrook-Walnut Grove / Red Rock Central (37).

Cheadle won the high jump (10 points) by clearing 5-8 with the fewest misses. He placed second in the triple jump (8 points) with a best leap of 39-7.75 and scored three points with a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (12.50).

Thier placed third in the shot put (six points) with a distance of 41-2.5 and scored four more with a fifth-place throw of 113-11 in the discus.

The Coyotes scored nine points in the relays, getting a fine fourth-place finish (five points) by the 3,200-meter (4 x 800) team of senior Carlos Juarez, senior Christian Juarez, freshman Adrian Schwaller and junior Lukas Stapek which clocked a time of 9:50.34.
