Holding Russell-Tyler-Ruthton without a field goal over a six-minute span midway through the second half, the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes used a 13-2 burst to take a six-point lead and earned a 75-67 victory over the Knights in a key non-conference high school boys’ basketball game last Saturday night (February 15) at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.
HL-O/F, which improved to 10-14 overall with the win, will finish the regular season with a pair of games in Okabena this week. The Coyotes hosted Westbrook-Walnut Grove last night (Tuesday) and welcome Hills-Beaver Creek to town on Friday.
The seeds for the upcoming Section 3A South tournament will be released today (Wednesday).
“This was a big win prior to seeding,” Coyotes head coach Colby Pack said. “We had a similar record to R-T-R coming into the game, and they have some good young players. We were definitely challenged in this game, but we came through with some big baskets at key times in the second half.”
