In Memory of Florence Hartman

1921-Florence Hartman-2012

Florence Hartman, the daughter of John and Mathilda (Heinrich) Stirn, was born on September 28, 1921 in Currie, MN. She grew up in Currie and attended IHM Catholic School. Florence was united in marriage to John Hartman on September 26, 1939 at St. Ann's Church in Slayton. Florence worked as a carhop at Ella's Drive Inn, which she enjoyed while John, was in the service. After their marriage they lived in Missouri, Slayton and Iona. After John's discharge from the service they lived in Slayton until November of 1959 when they bought a home in Iona and remodeled it. They spent the rest of their married lives there and raised their six children (and many pets). Florence remained at her home after John passed away in August of 1996. Florence entered the Slayton Golden Living Center in June of 2010 and passed away there on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the age of 90. She was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church in Iona and was the Parish bookkeeper under Fr. Zenk and Fr. Halloren. She enjoyed working outdoors, fishing, camping and “Heading West”. Florence loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her six children, Sharon (Manford) Koehly of Lakewood, CO, Jack (Jackie) Hartman of Pillager, MN, Judy (Jerry) Zwack of Bloomington, MN, Jean (Lynn) Schumacher of Slayton, MN and Bob (Jayne) Hartman of Brainerd, MN; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Hartman of Pine City, MN; 12 grandchildren, Michelle, Greg, Carey, Brandi, Mike, Kelly, Brian, Nicki, Ross, Heather, Jesse and Derek; 9 great-grandchildren, Alec, Hunter, Harleigh, Lauren, Gracie, Mason, Jocelyn, Allison and Alexander. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Dick, 4 brothers, Kenneth, Arthur, William and Milton and 4 sisters, Helen, Agnes, Josephine and Betty Lou.

Funeral services were held at St. Columba Church Iona, MN at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 24, 2012 with Fr. James Seitz celebrating. The lector was Jean Hentges. The organist was Sharon Lais. The song leader was Pam Ford. The pallbearers were her grandchildren. Interment at St. Columba Cemetery Iona, MN.
