Agriculture Society donates to the cattle barn at the fairgrounds
The Murray County Board of Commissioners accepted a donation of $2,053.94 from the Murray County Agriculture Society for upgrade at the cattle barn at the fairgrounds. The money was raised at the rib-cookoff during the fair.

A resolution was signed to establish an absentee ballot board. Heidi Winder, La Dean Lang and Lisa Carlson were appointed.

The board set a minimum bid on forfeited property. A lot in Avoca 224 2nd Street SW was set at $2,000; 4th Street and Des Moines Street in Currie - $500; and 341 Center Avenue- land and house in Lake Wilson at $5,000. Auction for the property will be December 10, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.

The yearly Joint Powers Agreement resolution was signed with Lincoln Lyon Rural Water System. Frank Engels, Brent Fiekema, and Janice Moen were appointed to the board of commissioners.

Myron Johnson was awarded the quote to remove snow at the Human Services Building.

Chris Hansen presented the updated water plan. The plan approved by BWSER is for five years.

For some time the board has been discussing adding a sidewalk at the fairgrounds, particularly for wheel chair access to the various buildings. Justin Hoffman, parks director, presented a plan for the walkway. Quotes will be opened on October 2 at 9:30 a.m. for the 210 foot x 6 foot wide sidewalk with a completion date of October 31.

Joe Schreier submitted a quote of $2,580 for the labor to shingle the bathrooms and visitor center at the End-O-Line Park. Materials quote was $4,130.73 from Slayton Building Materials. Both quotes were accepted.

The board agreed to place the American flag in all meeting rooms at the government center.

Carpet replacement in the auditor’s office, the highway department and extension offices is needed. Quotes will be received at a later date. A settlement was received for the faulty carpet in the dispatch area at the Sheriff’s building. The carpet is to be replaced.

A strategic planning to review the MAP assessments is scheduled for October 30. Toni Smith, a former Murray County staff person, will be asked to be the facilitator.

Commissioner William Sauer reported on the SAWS meeting. He said they are making progress on the grinder pumps.

The board approved a quote for a pickup topper for the highway department. It will replace a topper that doesn’t fit the new pickup purchased this year. It will be much more efficient for the surveying crew. The former topper is for sale.

At a special meeting held on September 11 the board awarded the low bid of Midwest Contracting, LLC for the Moulton Township bridge. The bid was $290,851.00.
