Raiders play great but lose to Pipestone

The Fulda Raiders volleyball team hosted the Pipestone Arrows Monday Sept. 24, The Raiders came out strong, and Rachel Cheadle scores three kills to begin the set. The Arrows fight back to tie the score at 3 points each. The set was very close, not more than one or two points separated the teams throughout the game. Cheadle had an impressive night at the net with help from Amanda Schumacher who contributed with a key block to keep us in the set. The first set ends with the Arrows inching out the win 24-26.

Not wanting to go down by 2 sets, the Raiders played their hearts out again. The set was a back and forth tussle. The Raiders tie the set at 12 a piece behind a kill from Cheadle. The lead flip flops between the teams eventually Fulda takes a three point lead at 20-17 after a kill by Brittney Hermeling. Fulda asks for a time out when the Arrows tie the set once again. The suspense was high in the gym, score tied 25-25. The Arrows record the next two points, Raiders lose 25-27.

Having their backs against the wall, the Raiders came out fighting, Fulda leads the third set by the score of 5-1, but Pipestone would not give up. They were able to even the set at 6-6; the Raiders dug in their heels and were able to take a two point lead following an ace serve by Courtney Tiesler. Arrows answer and take an 11-14 advantage. Fulda takes a time out to talk things over, but couldn’t overcome the offensive attack by the Pipestone Arrows. The third and final set goes to the Arrows 14-25.

As a team the Fulda Raiders had a superb evening from the serving line, serving at 95%. The team went 51-55 from the service line. Dani Hermeling went 15-15, Brittney Hermeling 10-10, Myah Holinka 10-10, and Mallory Pagel 9-9. Coach Tiesler praised their efforts on the court and couldn’t have been prouder of their serving performance and their overall team work.
