The Rebels cross country teams traveled to Adrian on Friday, October 26th to compete in the Section 3A cross country meet. The meet was originally scheduled on Thursday, but with the first shot of snow hitting the area, the meet was pushed back to Friday. Even though the snow was gone, the cold temperatures made for an interesting day for the runners. The Rebels ignored the cold and still gave it their all in their final meet of the 2012 season.

The boys teams began the meet instead of the girls. There were 15 teams that competed for the Section championship and that included Jackson County Central, BOLD, MACCRAY, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton, Windom, Yellow Medicine East, Springfield, Pipestone Area, Lac Qui Parle Valley, MLBO, Canby-Minneota-Lincoln High, Montevideo, Luverne and Redwood Valley along with MCC. The meet started with all the teams tightly packed against one another until Nick Stoks of CML took the lead. As the race went on, Stoks began to get a big lead and eventually went on to finish the race almost 30 seconds ahead of Alex Amunrud of Redwood Valley. The first MCC runner to cross the finish line was Senior Andy Garza. He was able to finish very strong for the Rebels as he had a dash to the finish with MACCRAY’s Jordon Boonstra. Garza was edged out slightly at the end, but was still able to finish 24th overall and had a great time of 18:26 in the cold weather. A little while later, Aaron Boock, another Senior for the Rebels, made an interesting finish with Sringfield’s Dylan Nachreiner. Just by one tenth of a second, Boock finished 40th overall in his final race of his career with a time of 19:08. Jack Erickson was able to coast to the finish comfortably in 45th place and he was clocked with a time of 19:21. Jacob Boerboom was the fourth Rebels to finish as he was able to have a time of 20:20. Chris Ellens finished off the 2012 season with a time of 20:34 while Nathan Beech showed was clocked with a time of 20:52. Andrew Appel was the final Rebels to cross the finish line and he finished with a time of 21:10.

The boys team was able to finish sixth overall out of the 15 teams that competed. Redwood Valley took the team title while Luverne took runner up.

The girls team stretched out and took the the starting grid as soon as the boys race concluded. Included in the teams was every team except for BOLD and Springfield, and added Southwest United. Just like the boys race, the girls were tightly compacted with one another and eventually, Redwood Valley’s Kayla Huhnerkoch and Luverne’s Madison Schandelmeier took to the lead. Adrian’s Jordin Kopplow was also with those two at the top of the pack. Later in the race, the girls made a dash to the finish and it was Huhnerkoch who took the finish with a time of 14:53. The first Rebel to cross the finish line was Maddie Dibble. She led the Rebels team for the first time all year and placed 31st overall. Her time was 16:43. Melissa Gehl crossed the finish a little while later in 38th place. She capped her season with a time of 16:57. Lizzette Garza and Sariah Cheadle finished back to back for the Rebels, but had a little distance between the two. Garza finished with a time of 17:39 while Cheadle coasted to the finish with a time of 17:50. Breanna Breberg later came in with a time of 18:48 while Jamie Schnoor, the lone Senior on the girls side, gave it her all in her final race as a Rebel. She finished with a time of 19:55.

As a team, the girls placed 8th overall while Canby-Minneota-Lincoln High took the team title in the meet.

Congratulations Rebels on a fine campaign and good luck to seniors Aaron Boock, Michael VanderWal, Kole Kramer, Andrew Appel and Jamie Schnoor in their future careers.
