Tuesday, Election Day, will be history when you read this. The paper goes to print every Tuesday at 10 am at which time the polls had been opened for three hours. The results will hopefully be known late evening if we are lucky. A clear, concise win for our candidate of choice is the best anyone can hope for. The pundits will chew on this election for weeks and then, ever so slowly the next campaign will build to the next election Tuesday.

When the paper was printed on Wednesday and in the mail Thursday there was time to hang on the results till everything was counted. It was often around breakfast time before the county had all the ballots in. By law each polling location had to count the ballots starting with the national ballot then working its way down to the local dog catcher. The tally was called in to the county auditor and then the ballots were taken by the election judge to the auditor. Ballot counting has changed with ballots being processed electronically. Each ballot is fed into the machine and counted while you watch. The long hours of hand counting and recounting each ballot are over. The process has changed mostly for the better. The results have mostly remained the same.

Happiness is like a butterfly, the more you chase it, the more it will elude you, if you capture it against it's will, you will kill it, but if you set your mind on other things, it might just come and sit gently on your shoulder.

Have a good week
