November 29, 2012

by Jerry Johnson
Thanksgiving in Las Vegas was unusual but enjoyable. We had the pleasure of following our granddaughter there for a basketball tournament. The games were Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the South Point Casino which was a ways from the strip and downtown.

The place is huge, the courts were set up in the arena, which is also used for national rodeos and other functions. The convention center, hotel, and casino also sports 64 lanes of bowling, and nine movie theaters. We never found all the restaurants, cafes, buffets and bakery's in the building. The University of Northern Iowa team played against Arizona, Florida and North Carolina with varied results. My gambling also had varied results. From Wednesday thru Monday I gambled a total of eight to ten hours. We did see the movie Lincoln which was pretty good. It's been a few years since we have been to Vegas and there are a lot of changes.

A husband was having great difficulty getting along with his wife, nothing but arguing and friction, so he decided to consult a marriage counselor. After they had talked for a while, the counselor said, “I suggest that you run five miles each day for a week. Then please call me back.”

A week later the counselor received a call from the husband, “Well,” asked the counselor, “how are things going with you and your wife?”

“How should I know?” said the husband. “I’m thirty-five miles away.”
