In a regional competition featuring some of the strongest teams in the area, a young Fulda Junior High Knowledge Bowl Team came from behind to win the MCC Invitational. After two rounds, the team was ranked 2nd of 24 teams but trailed top-ranked Windom by 11. Going into the final round against experienced teams of mostly freshmen, “I thought we were going to get crushed,” said team captain, 8th grader Millie Piper. The team dominated the round from the start, though, outscoring the other two contenders 20 to 6 to 10 and edging out Windom’s top team for the win.
Knowledge Bowl is an academic quiz competition featuring teams of 4-6 students. For each oral round of 45 questions, the teams are ranked based on overall score and sorted into competition rooms in groups of three. A simple scoring machine in the room is attached to three strips. Each team sits around a strip and buzzes in to answer questions.
