Oakland helps to seal victory for Fulda Raiders 63-59

The Fulda Raiders boys basketball team traveled to Adrian this Friday night to open up their regular season.


The hot hands of Todd Peterson and Andy Oakland helped lift the Raiders to their first victory of the season.

Peterson was six of 10 from beyond the arc scoring 14 of 15 of Fulda’s points early in the game. Up 15-10 the Raiders scored 10 of the next 12 points to widen the gap as the clocked ticked down to 9:53 left to play in the first.

Aaron Persing came up with a steal and layup followed by back-to-back 3-point shotss by Josh Ramerth and Andy Oakland. Nathan Getting dumped in two free throws in the 10 point splurge and took 37-33 halftime lead into the locker room

Adrian was able to come back and close the gap as the final minutes ticked off towards halftime.

After halftime Brady Lonneman (Adrian) connected on an 18-footer from the left wing to pull the Dragons within two points, 35-37. Fulda answered by dropping in 10 consecutive points.

Peterson popped two 3-pointers while Oakland drove the lane for a couple of layups to put the Raiders back out front, 47-35 at the 13:49 mark in the game.

Adrian came back with long distance shots to close in on the visiting Raiders 46-49 with 9:38 left to play.

Fulda was able to maintain the lead and extend it to 58-50 with 4:18 left on the clock. Andy Oakland popped in five points during this time frame.

Adrian didn’t give up and came back with seven straight points to close in on the Raiders (57-58) with 1:19 left to play in the game.

A steal and successful free throw shot by Zach Holt put Fulda back up by two, 59-57.

Trevor Ruesch, who dished out five assists, came up with another steal on Adrian’s next possession. Oakland was fouled going in for the shot and sent to the free throw lane where he dropped in both shots pushing the Raiders out front 61-57 with 16.4 seconds left on the clock.

Oakland then helped secured the victory for Fulda with a defensive rebound and two more free throws with 5.6 seconds left in play.

“Late steals by Zach Holt ant Trevor Ruesch along with key free throws helped seal the victory,” stated head coach Colby Pack.

Todd Peterson led the Raiders with 24 points including six 3-pointers.

Andy Oakland had 20 points on the night to go along with 14 rebounds, six steals, and two assists.

Nate Getting dropped in seven points and three boards while Trevor Ruesch added four points on the evening. Ruesch handed out six assists and nabbed two steals on the night.

Josh Ramerth had 3 points and 2 rebounds and closing out the scoring effort for the Raiders were Aaron Persing, 2, Ryan Schumacher, 2, and Zach Holt with 1.

The Raiders forced 29 turnovers in the game and had 19 steals along with 15 of 18 at the free throw line for 83%. They were outrebounded, however, 35-25.
