Fulda School Board approves hire of new staff

At the regular monthly meeting of the Fulda School Board which was held on Monday evening, the Board approved the hiring of Laura Cheadle as a paraprofessional for the 2012-2013 school year. Approved for hire as the Food Service Manager was Priscilla (PJ) Klein. Food Service Assistants who were hired to work at Fulda Elementary School were Cindy Teerink and Kathy Duerr.

Approved for hire as the Assistant Speech Director for the 2012-2013 speech season was Debra Moe.

The resignation of June Lease was accepted. Lease served as a paraprofessional for a number of years in the Fulda School District.

Fulda Elementary School Principal Mike Pagel issued a thank you to all staff for their professionalism and dedication as the 2012-2013 school year continues.

Paraprofessional Recognition Week is this week, January 14-18th.

A Rescreening for Pre School will be held on January 25, 2013.

An Automated External Defibrililator (AED) was installed in the Fulda Elementary School gymnasium lobby. The school now has two units within the building.

Principal Gregg Slaathaug’s report stated that congratulations were in order for the FCCLA members who participated in the Regional Competition held in Tyler, MN. All of the members qualified for the Minnesota State Competition which will be held in early April in the Twin Cities.

The Junior High Knowledge Bowl competition Team 1 (Millie Piper, Claire Westra, Kasey Hermeling, Francis Piper and San Cheadle) finished second out of 54 years and Team 3 (Cody Froderman, Isaac Schroer, Kendall Clark and Jason VanDyke) qualified for regional competition.

A short assembly will be held on Monday, January 21st, in honor of the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday.

Superintendent Luther Onken reported that Sherri Boehnke will be the Early Childhood Family Education Coordinator and will teach the Early Childhood Program.

A unanimous vote by the Board members set the standard mileage rate for the use of a personal vehicle for school business by a staff member at 46.5˘ per mile.

The Board also approved the 2013-2014 Fulda Public Schools Calendar with 172 insstructional days, 3 staff development days, 4 in-service days, and one conference day for a total of 180 days.
