Fulda Lions donations benefit Fulda community and beyond

Fuldaís Lions Club is a loyal supporter of many activities and events in the Fulda community. They also are benefactors for many organizations and services that reach well beyond the Fulda area.

The Fulda Lions Club has several annual projects and fundraisers that they do including the 7th and 8th Grade Basketball Tournaments for Boys and Girls; Pancake Breakfast on Palm Sunday; Maple Lawn Bingo which they sponsor two times each year; the street dance during the Wood Duck Festival; sideline crew for Fulda High School football games; $500 scholarship for a Fulda High School Senior ($2,500 total to date); and the collection of used eye glasses that are distributed throughout the world to people in countries that would not have sight without this Lions program.!

They also contribute annually to several organizations, many located within the community of Fulda, but also to many located across the State of Minnesota and even worldwide. Here is a recap of some of the donations made by the Fulda Lions Club during the past 50 years: the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank (+$8,000); the Minnesota Lions Hearing Foundation (+$4,000); the Minnesota Lions Diabetes Foundation (+$3,000); Leader Dog for the Blind (+$1,200); Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCEF) (+$6,000); Lions Special Olympics of Minnesota; Can Do Canines; and Lions Project New Hope. (+$3,000)

They have also contributed (+$1,000) to vision testing; (+$3,000) to the Fulda Boy Scouts; (+$4,000) to the American Cancer Society; (+$2,000) to Maple Lawn Nursing Home; (+$9,000) to Youth programs; (+$500) to Fulda area churches; (+$2,000) to Client Community Services, Inc.; (+$7,000) to the Fulda Ambulance Association and Fulda Fire Department; (+$24,000) to Fulda High School organizations; (+$23,000) in donations to Fulda community projects and events; ($+6,000) in misc. donations.

These Fulda Lions Club donations total over $100,000 since their Club charter was issued in 1963!!! WOW!!! The motto of all Lions Club is "We Serve!" That is why the club was formed 50 years ago, to serve the community of Fulda and to serve other people throughout the world. A thank-you and a special tribute to the original charter members that had the vision and dedication to to form this club many years ago with the goal being to serve other people!

The Clubís service to Fulda, and areas beyond, has spanned fifty years and as the date for their 50th anniversary of the signing of their Charter draws near, the Fulda Lionís Club cordially invites you to join them in celebrating on Saturday March 9th, at the Fulda Legion/Community Hall with a 5 p.m. Social Hour, a 6 p.m. Buffet Dinner, and 7 to 10 p.m. entertainment by the Fulda Area Big Band. Reservations are required for the catered meal by Gramma's Kitchen of Fulda. The cost is $20.00. Please RSVP to Marv Isder at 507-360-2675 or email at berr@centurytel.net by Saturday, March 2nd.

There is an entry fee of $5.00 for those who come to enjoy the music of the Fulda Big Band. All proceeds will go to future reading programs in Fulda, which includes the Fulda Schools, the Fulda Library, and people of all ages. The Reading theme is the 2012-13 theme for the current International Lions President.

The public is cordially invited to attend this celebration. Fulda Lionís Club members stress that this celebration is not only for Lionís members, but for the entire community of Fulda. You are encouraged to bring any used eyeglasses to this event and they will be collected and distributed to enable someone in the world to see clearly!
