Harold Haar, the son of Peter and Anna Petersen Haar, was born on March 9, 1924 near Fulda, MN. He grew up on farms in the Fulda and Avoca area. He attended country school and graduated from the Slayton High School in 1942. Harold was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Hermeling on February 1, 19451 in Iona, MN. After their marriage they made their home in Fulda. Together they owned and operated Oak Grove Dairy and Haar’s Clothing Store in Fulda. He also was a rural mail carrier for many years. Harold entered the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda in September of 2010 and passed away there on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the age of 89. Harold was a member of the Masonic Lodge where he had just received his 65-year pin. He also was a member of the Fulda American Legion Post 318 and a past member of the Fulda Chamber of Commerce. Harold was a past City Clerk for Fulda and helped develop the Town & Country Golf Course in Fulda. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing, traveling, fishing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Betty Haar of Fulda, MN; three daughters, Kathy (Jerry) Van Oort of Henderson, MN, Jane (Steve) Alpert of Lakeville, MN, and Cindy (Lowell) Meier of Fulda, MN; 8 grandchildren, Jen (Zach) Bakke, Maggie (Randy) Fisher, Katie (Greg) Nuss, Jeremy Van Oort, Jamie (Shannon Tabbert) Alpert, Laura (Andy) Schmitz, Hilary (Aaron Clay) Meier and Adrienne Meier; 8 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Alicia (Haar) Morningstar. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Haar.

Funeral services will be at the First Presbyterian Church Fulda, MN at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 with the Rev. Stephanie Huisman officiating. Interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Fulda, MN. Military honors provided by the Fulda VFW Post 9017 and Fulda American Legion Post 318.
