Many people begin to do some general complaining as they come close to the date of their 50th birthday mostly because they realize that they are a half century old. For Fulda’s Jeanne Koopman, May 17th, 2013, the day of her fiftieth birthday, isn’t a day for even a single thought about complaining about her age - it is a day for joyous celebration!

“When Drew (Oakland) was approaching his 50th birthday, the kids were talking about how to celebrate the day. I was in the hospital and quite ill at that time. I told my children, ‘If I make it to my fiftieth birthday, we are going to have one heck of a bash!’” Koopman explained in a recent interview.

During their 2012 Christmas celebration, Koopman’s family began talking with her about her upcoming birthday and the major party that they wanted her to experience.

“One day there was a knock on my door. Terry Vander Beek was dropping by as she often has and does. They had heard about the party that was in its planning stages. Before cancer, I was a full-time employee at Brian’s Supper Club and Tavern. During all of the treatments and trips to Sioux Falls, there were many times that Terry was there to check on me and take me for treatments,” Koopman shared. “This day, she had another purpose in mind. They wanted to host the party at Brian’s Supper Club.”
