Maynard’s Food Center in Fulda recently received new check-out counters, complete with universal product code scanners. Store manager, Julie Hulstein, stated that she learned that the Fulda store was going to be receiving the new equipment when she attended the Spring Food Show meeting that was held at the end of February.

The new check-out system at Maynard’s was installed on Tuesday, April 30th, by Retail Data Systems (RDS) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. “When it was installed, RDS spent time training us on the system. We had set a goal that we would have all of the product information typed into the system and, hopefully, begin using it within two weeks of the installation,” Hulstein explained. “RDS called on May 1st to make sure that I was able to sign onto the system, and I was. They have been very helpful, taking us through each step that we need to go through to make sure that we have learned to use the new system. For now, the scanners are covered with paper because we had to enter information into the computer for each and every product that we offer in the store. ”

That task has taken many hours. “I’ve worked many extra hours entering information and have had help from Mike Kramer who completed aisles three and four. It’s a cooperative effort by management and employees to get our system ready so that it works smoothly for our customers. The process has actually gone quite well and it’s a good feeling knowing that we are ahead of schedule,” Hulstein commented.
