A grand opening gala of the Worthington Event Center will be taking place this Saturday, May 18. Beginning with a 6:00 p.m. social hour, a catered dinner will follow. At 8:00 p.m., three local bands will begin performing. Starfire, Sideline and Tommy Gunn will provide the entertainment.

Tickets are on sale now for the gala, at the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce, Worthington City Hall, Schafer’s Health and Gifts and the Worthington Liquor Store. Tickets are $40 each for the “fairly formal” event, according to Event Center Manager Jackie Tentinger.

“There will be butler served hors d’voeures, local catering by BenLees, liquor store wine tasting and an open bar,” Tentinger added. “People are using it as an excuse to dress up.”

Saturday marks the opening of the Event Center, which has been under construction since Labor Day. The adjacent hotel, Comfort Suites, broke ground later, and will be completed soon. It will have 75 suites, which are anticipated to be available beginning in mid-June.

If unable to attend the gala on Saturday evening, the Event Center will have an Open House event earlier that day. “It’s a perfect time to walk through and see it decorated for an event,” Tentinger said.

The Event Center will feature the ability to host four events at one time. A garden patio outdoor event area will be completed soon. Located on stamped concrete to the south of the building, there will be flowers and trees to help offer privacy for an outdoor wedding or other event.

The Grand Ballroom will consist of three rooms which can be divided in various options. The Okabena Ballroom and Bella and Ocheda Halls total 6,620 square feet, and offer seating for 500.

These rooms can be rented for wedding parties, trade shows and business meetings. Tentinger will work with the clients to ensure a successful event.
