Donald Johnson
1955 - Donald Johnson 2013
Donald Ray Johnson, Sioux Falls, SD, died May 31, 2013, in Sioux Falls. He was 57.

Donald Johnson was born November 18, 1955, at Slayton, MN, to Raymond and Gertrude (Berreau) Johnson. The family moved to Sioux Falls in 1958. Don attended Emerson Elementary School, Axtell Jr. High, and Washington Senior High School. Following his graduation in 1975, Don began his 30 year career with Ben Hur Ford in the auto-detailing department. He was then employed with AutoZone. Following an onset of poor health, Don retired in 2012.

Don cherished time spent with his son, Bradley, and was active with the SD Special Olympics. For a number of years, Don coached SD Special Olympics Basketball. He was also a softball coach. A passionate "car guy," Don was extremely knowledgeable in all-things automotive. He was a member and past president of the Sioux Empire Mustang Club which later became the Ford Club, and was active with several area car functions.

Don was a gentle giant of a man. Compassionate, caring and generous, his larger-than-life spirit will be greatly missed.

Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Bradley Johnson, Sioux Falls, SD; fiancée, Joan Stevens, Sioux Falls, SD; brothers, Earl Johnson (Carol), Thaxton, MS, Keith Johnson, Hastings, MN, David Johnson (Lynne), Sioux Falls, SD; his sisters, Judie Howell (Larry), Watertown, SD, and Rena Hatfield (Richard), Burlington, IA; aunts and uncles; cousins; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and former wife, Diane Heumiller.

Memorial Services will be held 1:00 Tuesday afternoon at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue, Sioux Falls. Visitation begins at noon, Monday, with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 Monday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be at Hills of Rest Memorial Park.
