Hundreds of people turned out for the 2013 Fulda Wood Duck Festival. Although morning and early afternoon rains had some questioning what would be happening, the 2013 Fulda Wood Duck Festival went on as planned.

With this year’s theme “Woody Roars for the Lions Fifty Years of Service” kept foremost in thought, Laura Williams was crowned Miss Fulda on Wednesday evening at the Miss Fulda Pageant. The pageant was the kick-off to this year’s Fulda Wood Duck Festival events. Joining Miss Fulda were Fulda Princesses Kelsey Heppler and Micaela Paulzine as well as Little Miss Fulda Isabel Runkle and Little Miss Princess Gracie Warborg.

Thursday’s Burger Feed and Fulda Area Big Band Concert were both held in Fulda City Park.

Friday’s activities began with the BBQ and Pie Feed at Fulda City Hall and the Kiddie Parade. Games for the kids and Bingo were available on Fulda’s Main Street. Music lovers enjoyed the music by the Fulda High School Band during the Concert in the Park. A surprise awaited 35-year Fulda High School Concert Band music teacher, Mike Peterson, when he and the high school band members were asked to leave the stage. 80 FHS alumni filled the chairs on stage in the Larson Band Shell and played a tribute to Peterson. The piece was composed by Bill Locklear.

At dusk, a delightful fireworks show was shot off over Fulda Lakes. The show was accompanied by synchronized music provided by 95.1 Radio.

Saturday’s activities included the Wood Duck Walk/Run, Bike Ride, Kids 1 Mile Fun Run, Kids Fishing Contest, 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, an Antique Gas Engine and Tractor Show, shooting of Fulda’s 3” ordance cannon, games for the kids and Bingo, a “Bakery” Walk, Motorcycle DDisplay, and the Lion’s Street Dance.

Nine people participated in the bike ride. They all rode for thirty miles even though the winds were strong. The rains arrived just as the bike ride ended.

Saturday’s 70-unit parade was a big hit. Lions Club members from area cities came out to help celebrate the Fulda Lions Club’s fiftieth year. Represented were Lions Clubs from Luverne, Jasper, Mileroy, and New Ulm. The 2013-2014 Lions District Governor, John Myers, Jackson, and the 2014-2015 Lions District Vice Governor, Ladive Laechel, Jeffers were also on hand to recognize the Fulda Lions Club 50 years of service.

Sunday’s activities began with a delicious Pancake Breakfast served by the Fulda Firemen. The breakfast was followed by Grace: More Than We Deserve - Greater Than We Imagine - this year’s cantata performed by the Fulda Community Choir. This was the choir’s twenty-fifth year of performing a cantata during the Fulda Wood Duck Festival.

Family Fun in the Park began at noon with Bob and the Beachcombers, the Kiddie Tractor Pull, silent auction and great choices for food stands.

Winning the prize of the grill and tank was Tim Dibble. Mike Knorr and Chuck Friese both won $25 in Fulda Bucks. Gary Schurr and Holly Zins won $50.00 meat bundles. Joyce Den Hartog and Candace Ommen won $50.00 gift certificates and Cheryl Wilde and Christa McVickers both won $25.00 VISA Cards.

All results of the walk/run, and other competitions can be found inside this issue of the Fulda Free Press.
