Celebrate July 4th at Nobles County’s Pioneer Village

Are you looking for an enjoyable outing for the whole family for your 4th of July celebration? Nobles County’s Pioneer Village may be just the place for you.

Festivities begin 10 a.m. and the gates will remain open until 5 p.m.

At ten a.m., the St. John’s Lutheran Church Choir, Okabena, MN will be singing.

On the grounds, visitors can take in the 26th annual melodrama of Dogsbreath Devereaux, The Dastardly Doctor written by Billy St. John and directed by Isaac Wass. Performances are at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The melodrama is sponsored by Thrivent Financial.

The Prairie Reapers 27th Annual Power Reunion Tractor Pull begins at 11 a.m. with the tractor parade scheduled for noon. The featured tractor this year is the International brand of tractors. All tractor brands are welcome.

In the large stucco church will be The History of Bigelow, Minnesota as presented by Ken Zylstra. He will discuss the history of Bigelow through stories, photos, and other historical objects. Zylstra will present his program from 10:30 a.m. - noon, and again at 1:30-3 p.m.

Daryl Hyrdlicka, Westbrook, MN will portray “The Gambler” as he performs games of chance and sleights of hand in the saloon. His wife, Alicia Bayer, will portray a saloon girl, and their children will have lawn games set up for all to play.

All buildings will be open for public tours. Demonstrations near and in the buildings will include flour milling by Roy Reiner, rope making near the harness shop, blacksmithing in the blacksmith shop, carpentry in the wood shop, laundry with an old-style washing machine, and cookies baking on a wood burning range baked by Donna Reiner.

In the fire hall, food will be available. Choices will include root beer floats, hamburgers, hotdogs, and coneys that will be grilled by the Early Risers Kiwanis, nachos ‘n cheese, bags of chips, pop and water, and sugar cookies topped with red, white, and blue sprinkles.

Popcorn will be available on the grounds.
