Murray County Board of Commissioners Hearing for ditch project scheduled

June 27, 2013

By Dorothy Bloemendaal
July 23 was scheduled for several hearings for county ditches. The first was County Ditch #82 for a final hearing at 11:00 a.m. Copies of the engineering report were distributed to the board. A hearing for partial abandonment of Judicial Ditch #10 will be held at 11:30 a.m. and a preliminary engineers’ report on County Ditch #35 will be discussed at 9:15 a.m. Also approved for repair was Judicial Ditch #13, Section 23 in Bondin Township.

Due to unexpected occurance, the seeding of the buffer strip on County Ditch #22, Section 13, Shetek Township was not completed by June 15 that had been earlier agreed to by Duane Campbell and John Meyer. The narrow width of the buffer strip was also a concern as their equipment was too big and was a safety concern. After much discussion the board agreed to have the seeding done by July 10 by either party or by Craig Bangasser who has a smaller drill.

One quote was received for the repair of the boiler at the government center. The board tabled it and will contact local plumbers for a quote.

Jennifer Kirchner, director of ambulance services, updated the board on the services provided and statistics of 2012. There were 422 calls. Most calls were in October in the 10 year average and the least in November and average 26 calls a month. Most of the calls are to Murray County Medical Center, however, others may be transfers to Sioux Falls, Minneapolis, Rochester, and other area hospitals. At the present time there are 25 EMTs and three in training, two of which are college students and will be part time EMTs. The trainees are screened as it costs $1,000 for the EMT course. She said they hope to purchase a rig this fall as repairs to the present rig have exceeded the budget for repair. Commissioner Robert Moline expressed thanks from the board for the ambulance department and pass it on to the EMTs.
