Jorge Duque worked for the Department of the Treasury Internal Revenue Service for thirty years following his retirement from the United States Air Force.

Jorge Duque is a resident at Maplewood Court Assisted Living, Fulda, MN. He recently shared part of his life story which includes having been the Commander at Chandler Air Force Station, Chandler, Minnesota, from 1964 - 1967.

Duque was born in Bogota, Columbia in 1931. Born to Ines and Bernardo Duque, he graduated from the St. Bartholomew High School at the age of 17.

At the age of 18, Duque’s father began working for the United Nations in New York. “When he moved to New York, he brought the whole family there. There were nine of us children,” Duque said. The family lived in Queens.

Duque attended Manhattan College and then Vassar College, both located in the New York state.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force on the 12th of October, 1951. Following basic training, he enrolled in the Aircraft and Engine Mechanics School, Wichita Falls, Texas. “Because of my very good grades, I was sent to a specialty school for air craft hydraulics. The school was on the Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul, Illinois. This was during the Korean War,” Duque explained.
