Fulda Little League Baseball season comes to an end

July 31, 2013

This past Monday the Fulda Little League team played in the end of the year tournament.
This past Monday the Fulda Little League team played in the end of the year tournament. The other teams in the tournament were Edgerton, Slayton and Heron Lake. Fulda was given the fourth seed after a 2-6 regular season and they had to face the number one seeded Slayton. Will Gehl got the start for Fulda and he came out throwing some major heat. Gehl was able to keep Slayton off the scoreboard for the first three innings of the game. Fulda jumped out to a quick lead in the top of the first as Brandon Everett scored on a RBI single from Gehl. However, Fulda was unable to get the offense going for the rest of the game. Slayton started scoring in the bottom of the fourth as they were able to put up seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Gehl was able to consistently throw strikes, but did not get much help from his defense or offense. Gehl pitched the entire game striking out eight batters. The loss moved Fulda to the third place game. Final Score: Fulda 1 Slayton 7

In the third place game, Fulda was matched up with the second seeded Edgerton squad. Unlike the first game, Fulda came out of the gates with hot bats. Fulda was able to score four runs in the top of the first inning. Justin Dierks, Jon Gehl, Brandon Everett, and Aron Hulstein were all able to score in the inning. Highlight of the inning was a big two-run single by Everett.

Levi Spittle was the starting pitcher for Fulda and he was able to consistently throw strikes. Edgerton knocked the ball around, but Fulda's defense played very well behind Spittle. Fulda was able to score at least one run in every inning of the game including five in the fifth and four in the sixth. Brandon Everett and Will Gehl led the team offensively as Everett went 4-4 with two doubles, two singles, and four RBIs. Gehl went 2-4 with a double, a single, and three RBIs. Every player in Fulda's lineup reached base during the game and eight of the players scored a run.

Spittle posted five strong innings on the mound as he struck out four batters while allowing only five runs. Will Gehl came into the game in the last inning and was able to collect the save. With the win, Fulda captured third place in the tournament. Final Score: Fulda 13 Edgerton 8

With the win, Fulda ended the season on a very high note as they had their highest scoring game of the season. This game was the final game for Brandon Everett as he will be too old to play next year. Every other player on the team will be able to play again next season, which gives the team high hopes for next season. Everett will surely be missed as he was a leader on the team. He greatly improved during his years on the summer recreation team and it is exciting to see what he does in his future on Fulda athletic teams.

Coaches Todd Peterson and Alex Hein were very thankful that all the players came out this summer and also were very happy with the attitude and development of all the players.
