August 30, 2013

by Jerry Johnson
Last week I was at Rutgers Bay Lodge for several days of a Blandin Foundation sponsored retreat for Editors and Publishers. The twelve hour days were worthwhile with a good share of fun. Sure it did have a feeling like bootcamp. Thursday and Friday were full. Later we met friends at Outing, Minnesota, for some fishing on Lawrance Lake. Saturday afternoon was spent in Pine River at the Bluegrass Festival. The five day event featured a lot of national bands and shows. The temperatures were in the nineties but the breeze kept you alive. Sunday it was more fishing and it was pretty good. The Red Pine Point Bed & Breakfast was comfortable. We had a cabin for four and it was no match for Rutgers but it was all that was required to finish the week.

We returned home Sunday night to a dog that was miffed that we had been gone so long, it was great to see that we had received some rain in our absence. Everything was green and in good shape. The outlook for getting much more in the coming week is not the greatest.

A guy walking down a street one afternoon passes an old man sitting on the side of the road with a large sack.

The younger guy says to the old man, "Watcha got in the sack?"

The old man responds, "I got some monkeys in that there sack."

The younger man asks, "If I guess how many monkeys you got in the sack, can I keep one?"

The old man replies, "Son, if you guess how many monkeys I got in this sack, I'll give you both of 'em!"
